Split/trim minimums?

Using the mkvtoolsnix GUI, I’m trying to trim off a short leading blue-screen from an mkv file/recording. I’d guess it is about 2-12 frames, i.e. just a blip, but it is an eyesore on the subsequent merged video.

I’ve tried most of the options for split methods (time, duration, frames, etc.), but it seems like the minimum amount I can trim off is 2045Kb or about 6 seconds, which is far longer than the ‘blip’ that is a kind eyesore.

Is there a workaround? Do I need more powerful video editing software for this?

[I’m a new/novice user, mostly just use/need append and split features for my own use.]

Welcome!

mkvmerge can only cut on key frames. It’s not a fully-featured video editor.

Thank you for your reply.

Is there a way to re-master the mkv for a finer granularity of key frames or is the best thing to try to a video editor, do you think? (I have access to Adobe Premier old-ish version, but I don’t know how to use it for beans, really. I always feel like it’s taking out a battle axe for the small things I’m trying to do, not least because it ‘likes to’ change the file “rendering” rather than just keep it the same if you want.)

In other words, I may just live with the ‘blip’, rather than invest time in all that.

Having more key frames requires re-encoding the whole video & will come with a huge increase in size & a decrease in quality. I definitely recommend not doing that.

Apart from that I cannot really help you as I don’t do video editing myself & have next to no experience with proper video editors.
