Question : MKVToolNix Attachment:Image

Hey hi all, i’ve using this very useful tool for a while now to organize my movie collection, but i just wanted to ask something about the attachment tab. for some movies, i find more than one cover sometimes maybe up to 3 that i like. Obviously i can only have 1 cover, so i resize the one i like to 600 x 800 and load it up as Cover.png… i have no problem with this.

What i want to ask is, for sake of being neat, because i don’t want to store the extra alternate images elsewhere, and i don’t want to delete and search for them later again, could i just upload them together with the chosen Cover image and leave them there under the attachment tab? they are full size, not 600 x 800. i don’t need them to be displayed, just want to store them inside the mkv container.

And the last question is, if i ever extract these images again, would there be any loss in quality.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome!

You can store any number of images as attachments. Other applications usually only look for & use one with a name of cover.<ext>, with <ext> usually only being png & jpg, though some pieces of software might support other formats as well. Therefore you should only name one of the attachments cover.jpg.

As for quality loss: all content stored as “attachments” in Matroska is stored exactly as is with no modification at all. They’re bit-for-bit identical before attaching to & after extracting from a Matroska file.
