Need a fast & simple means of viewing MKV subtitles

First, I’m new to MKV files… thanks for this software, by the way.

Second, I get blurry-eyed looking at the help and FAQ sections herein because my coding days are long over, e.g., sometimes I used punch cards for my programs back then. So, “apologies” for posting confused questions which have answers covered elsewhere…and for being too “wordy.”

Questions… using this software…

#1) may I quickly view the subtitles embedded in an MKV file in a simple, straightforward manner and, if so, how?

#2) may I quickly edit subtitles embedded in an MKV file in a simple, straightforward manner and, if so, how?

Added background… I don’t need complete SRT files. I just need to see (i.e., via text search) if someone who plopped their name into every meta “name” field (every!) also added it to the subtitles. That is, I don’t need to rip MP4’s that have “Nummy-607” (not their real name) displaying on the burned-in captions every couple-few minutes. Sure, I can download SRT’s, but when I have a lot of conversions to perform (like a series with many episodes), downloading all those SRT’s can take a lot of time, and often the SRT’s need editing (e.g., to remove advertising), or the SRT’s don’t have reliable syncing.

Thank you in advance for any advice offered.
