Welcome!
I’m completely confused. MKVToolNix is available for Linux. I provide a lot of packages for various distros, including cross-distro AppImages & Flatpaks.
Hi:
Maybe i am installing it wrong or something, but i want to be able to extract subtitles just like this (Screenshot) on linux (fedora) do i need to install the GUI separately? or maybe with the flatpak version?
This isn’t MKVToolNix GUI. It’s a third-party GUI that I have no affiliation with.
Hmmm weird since its part of the installation instructions on fedora.
sudo dnf install mkvtoolnix mkvtoolnix-gui
But in that case i would like to request a feature were we could have a gui on linux to perform these operations. Makes batch extraction so much simpler.
No, you misunderstood. MKVToolNix is the name of the project. This project includes a couple of command-line utilities (mkvmerge, mkvextract & others) as well as a GUI called MKVToolNix GUI.
For classical Linux distributions the whole MKVToolNix project is usually split into two packages: one usually called mkvtoolnix
which only includes the command line utilities and a second package called mkvtoolnix-gui
which depends on the first & includes the MKVToolNix GUI on top of the command-line tools.
However, the screenshot you showed was not about MKVToolNix GUI but about a different GUI. That different GUI, the application shown in your screenshot, is not part of the MKVToolNix project. I’m not affiliated with that other GUI.
cbaidon45, on Windows i use the gMKVExtractGUI (gMKVExtractGUI download | SourceForge.net) to (batch) extract tracks from .mkv/.mks/.mka/.mk3d files. It is a GUI that uses the MKVToolNix command line utilities mkvextract and mkvinfo. And it is the program shown on screenshot in first post.
If you can not run it on Linux, or on Linux with Wine you could look at this one:
Well, not running properly on wine and the flatpak didn’t work either. My request will still be for a GUI that allows for batch processing.
