Latest MKVTooNix GUI header editor very slow to open files

For at least a couple of versions now (I’ve tried with 95.0 and 96.0), opening a MKV file in the header editor is veeeeeeery sloooooooow on macOS, to the point that you think the app has probably crashed and kill it after 30-40 seconds of watching a spinning beachball.

I just checked with 90.0 and it opened in a second or two, no problem. It doesn’t seem to matter which MKV file, or which macOS version (I’ve checked on both Tahoe and Sequoia).

I am not sure if this affects all tabs, but I know it’s at least the Header Editor tab.

Any thoughts?

Sorry Not an answer to your problem, although I am using the latest version, but can’t see how to remove unwanted language tracks, would be quicker than re mixing I assume, hope you can help me understand how to remove unwanted language tracks in the header editor, P.S. mine loads up ok and can add an mkv file, using windows 11

Thanks

The way I’ve always treated it is that the header editor lets you change track metadata (e.g. “default” flag, or track language) but not the actual tracks contained by the MKV. For that, you should open the file in the multiplexer tab and deselect the tracks you want to remove (and you can also change track metadata while you’re at it).

I guess you could toggle the “track enabled” flag to “No”. The data for the track would still be in the MKV though, just marked as disabled.

In my experience, just removing tracks using the multiplexer is surprisingly quick. And at this point, it might be quicker then editing the headers
