Hello,
maybe it´s a stupid question but how can i save and later restore the GUI preference settings?
E.g. the predefined audio track names.
I tried Multiplexer>save settings (this only seems to export the current Multiplex options)
I tried Multiplexer>create option file (this only seems to export very basic options like GUI language settings)
I didn´t find any option/button to export the GUI settings.
If there is no menu option to export and import the settings, maybe it´s an easy workaround to just copy/save the config file of mkvtoolnix. Where can I find the config file (if there is no export/import function)?
Welcome!
The GUI stores all of its settings in a single file, with jobs & cache contents being stored in additional, separate files. But the settings themselves are in a single file. The following FAQ entry lists the relevant locations:
Thank you very much, exactly what i was looking for!
Happy new year
Maybe it would be a nice quality of life feature in the future to implement an import/export function for the GUI?
You’re quite welcome!
Eh, not sure it’d be worth the time & effort, to be honest. For one I’d have to decide how to handle computer-specific stuff. For example, the positions & dimensions of each window are stored there, as are certain installation paths. If I imported those you couldn’t really move settings over to a new computer whose installation/hardware setup differs too much without causing headaches. On the other hand if I leave those things out you couldn’t really use it as a backup/restore functionality.
And all that on top of me being convinced that a very small number of users would have use of such a feature & wouldn’t want to use a normal file manager instead.
Sounds too complicated, the solution with just copy the .ini is totally fine. Thanks for all your work!
