How to link "an audio track" and "a subtitle track" among several other tracks

Hello I have a “problem” or a “suggestion” it all depends on the point of view and the answer that will be attributed to me, but my problem is in the management of the default tracks.

Basically, I need to associate an audio track with a subtitle track, that is to say I want that when I select an audio track in for example “VLC” it selects “automatically” the appropriate subtitle track, example in image:

I would like these two tracks selected in blue to be linked and that on VLC it gives this kind of result:

For audio

And for the subtitles

But ‘by default’ I would like to keep this configuration (“Japanese audio track” with “French subtitle track”) by simply clicking on the video.

For default audio of .mkv file

And for the default subtitles of the .mkv file

BUT

I would really like to make it so that when I click on the French audio track there is the desired subtitle track (in this case “French signs”) which are automatically put JUST by having selected the linked audio (or vice versa by selecting the subtitle)

AND that when I click again on the Japanese track (audio for example) I find my associated default subtitle track

Thanks in advance I don’t know if it’s very clear but here is my problem and I really need to solve it
Thanks

Welcome!

MKVToolNix cannot help you with that, unfortunately. There’s a feature called “ordered chapters” that might help you, but I don’t use it, therefore I cannot help you with it. You can post over on doom9’s forum, the author of that thread is the one doing most of the work on ordered chapters.
