Recently, I wanted to rip the English subtitles from a DVD of the film Dumplings. I used MakeMkv to rip the video file from the DVD itself, then used MKVToolNix Gui to get the subtitles. But when I got was a document that was just jumbled up letters. It looks like its some sort of encryption (Correct me if I’m wrong). And now I feel stuck and don’t know what else to do.

Subtitles on DVDs are images, not text. Therefore you’ll see binary data when you look at it with a text editor. If you want to convert the images into text, you’ll have to use an OCR tool such as SubRip.
