Dumb question: does this site share email addresses when signing up?

No other sites have been visited in the past few days save this one. Dumb question: do we agree to this site sharing email addresses when we sign up? Reason for question: am now receiving a huge number of spam-emails from a firm in Shanghai, China. I’m not making an accusation… just trying to figure this multi-spam situation out. Have been busy with other non-PC things so (again) have not been online much at all save this site (e.g., no online shopping). The small amount of work which has been performed online was under a different email address (for video uploads that aren’t maybe exactly purely public domain).

If the admins don’t like this post then please delete it rather than banning me. It seemed that asking the obvious (yet dumb) question was warranted. Thank you in advance for any reply.

No harm in asking at all, and I’ll happily answer: no. I’m the only person running this forum, on my own server that no one else has administrative access to. I do not give anyone else access to the data either.

Of course we have to trust the developers of the forum software (Discourse) itself, too. Given that this is one of the most widely used forums out there, that it is Open Source software, and that I use the installer from the same project (and not some third-party Docker images) should hopefully reassure you.

On top of that I update the forum software weekly.

Barring some unknown bug or security issue in the software or on my server, I find it unlikely your email address got leaked from here.
