Dolby Vision in MKVtoolnix 81/82

Why in MKVtoolnix versions 81 and 82, when adding a Dolby Vision video, is it not visible separately in the list, as in previous versions?

Welcome!

The big feature of v81 is being able to read the Dolby Vision enhancement layer secondary track & combine it with the primary track containing the base layer, forming a conforming dual-layer-in-single-track for Matroska — 'cause that’s how it’s supposed to be stored in Matroska: not as two separate tracks. That’s why the track containing solely the enhancement layer won’t show up as a separate track anymore. This is working as intended.

Are there plans to enable the ability to select this function in the settings in the future? For example, SAMSUNG TVs do not reproduce Dolby Vision - so you don’t want to waste extra space in your media library on Dolby Vision data in a file. Especially when there are more than two hundred of these video files…

No, sorry. The reason is pretty simple: the “regular” track already contains the Dolby Vision Base Layer; it isn’t free of Dolby Vision. All leaving out that secondary track with the Enhancement Layer would do is produce a non-spec-compliant Matroska file while saving a bit of space.

You’re free to do whatever you want with your own files, of course, but I won’t implement such a feature.
