Delay MKV File Start Time

Hello,
I have a Zidoo media player I use for all of my ripped movies and trailers. Using MakeMKV and MKVToolnix has been perfect but I have one issues in regards to the start times, mostly for trailers. Movies are less of an issue due to the opening logos and things.

The problem is the Zidoo is set to match the frame rate of whatever video I am playing. Since the interface is set to 60fps, there is always a black screen for a few seconds while it refreshes the frame rate to 24fps. Most of my trailers begin immediately causing me to miss the first few seconds. I was wondering an easy way to add a 5 second delay to the entire MKV file. I know you can delay individual tracks to help with audio/video synch but I can’t seem to find a way to delay the entire file. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Welcome!

You can adjust the timestamps of all tracks by 5s, but I doubt this’ll actually work. Most players I know start playing content immediately as soon as they find it & base the audio/video synchronization on the timestamps of those first frames played. In effect this means that no matter if all content starts at 0s or 100s, the player will likely start playing immediately either way.

What would work is inserting a blank video segment in front of the actual video segment & delaying everything else. That way there’d be content (that you wouldn’t care about) at timestamp 0s, and the content you do care about would start after the blank section at 5s. Unfortunately this isn’t something MKVToolNix can help you with.

Thanks for the reply, I figured there wasn’t much MKVToolnix could do. I was hoping there was a solution without transcoding the videos but I may have to do that. Thanks anyway!
