Center Channel?

I asked this once at the Handbrake forum but received a “sorry; out of luck” answer. So I might as well ask here also:

I do not have any devices that handle 5.1 audio so I normally just output my mp4 to have stereo AAC. The problem (and this is universal, not specific to any one app) is that what I’d really like to hear is the center channel because moviemakers today are more concerned with explosions and other sound effects. Is there a means to tell MKVToolnix to just output the center channel to both left and right stereo channels so I can just hear the dialog well?

Thanks very much!
Barry

Welcome!

No, there isn’t. MKVToolNix operates mostly on the container level; it cannot do the type of advanced audio processing this would require.

Audacity is what you’re looking for. Just drag a MKV on it and it will demux the audio. Boost the center channel and remix to stereo. Remux the audio with the movie using MKVToolnix.
Some extra steps but the only way I can think of.

Ahh! Great advice. You explained the solution clearly. Thanks very much!
