Apple Silicon: retirement of Rosetta 2

For codesigning you would need an apple developer account which costs 99 Euro per year. I think I can upload binaries here, when a new version comes out, however they won’t be codesigned so it is needed to bypass the security mechanisms of Mac OS (diable gatekeeper, dequarantine) to launch the program.

I don’t know the reason it is listed as an iOS application (and I wasn’t aware of this before you pointed it out). However when I go to the storage settings there are more apps that are listed as an iOS application for me which are all ARM single binaries. Maybe Mac OS sometimes falsely labels arm single binaries as iOS applications?

It isn’t a big deal, but I was wondering if it labeling it as “iOS” did anything to performance.

I am TOTALLY down to keep using your binaries, but without codesigned every update is going to be niche because there are people that aren’t going to go through the hastle of disabling and re-enabling Gatekeeper. I’m just worried on future adoption that is all.

Hi Ryu67,
It seems that the file has been deleted. Any chance you could reupload it please?
Many thanks

No problem. I tried a different hoster. I hope it will stay longer. workupload - Are you a human?

Hello Ryu67,
I tried to build it myself for arm64, after a long process of build and compile, it showed the message: Done after 01:57.881. Enjoy
but i could not find the mkvtoolnix.app in the macOS folder. It seems that the build completed but did not reach the bundling step, possibly due to macdeployqt. I tried everything but could’nt figure out so i gave up..
Any advice?
Have you built the v.94?

I have now build the newest v.94. If someone needs this

I have compiled v.95 silicon for Tahoe. Here is the link: MKVtoolnix v.95

Hi, I created an account specifically to thank you for compiling this for Apple Silicon. It is greatly appreciated.

If you don’t mind, I’ll also add this following post script. If one were to encounter an issue where macOS says the application is “damaged” or whatever, do the following:

  1. Open Terminal

  2. type the following: xattr -cr

  3. Drag and drop the MKVToolNix-95.0.app from the Applications folder into the Terminal window and hit press return.

THANK YOU again. Do you have a page you regularly update for the app? I will give you a follow and share with as many as I can, if you like.

I am glad you found it helpful. I don’t think Xatter -cr is needed since it is code-signed by Bunkus.
I don’t have a webpage - I just tried to build one myself, and it worked, so I thought I’d share it with the community, as @Ryu67 did.
If Bunkus wants to post this to the main download page, I don’t mind at all. Let’s if i can do for the future releases too..

Cheers,

I really appreciate you doing the builds for the sake of others. For various reasons I don’t want to host binaries that I haven’t built myself on my site (the official MKVToolNix download location). I’m open to adding another link in the macOS downloads section & will think about it.

I fully understand. I cannot promise either that I could build each version, but I’ll try, though!

However, this and previous builds supplied by Ryu67 at least give people an opportunity to move away from Intel to the Apple Silicon version. The silicon versions run extremely fast compared to Intel ones.
