Hello, I’ve updated MKVToolNix, but I would really like to go back to an older version from a few years ago. Where can I find that installation file?

Welcome!

Assuming you’re using Windows, you can find all older releases [here](https://mkvtoolnix.download/windows/releases/).

I can’t find it here. There are only dates from 26-05-2026. I think I had version 0.90 or something similar, but there are no setup files in there.

I had a version somewhat like this one, but slightly older. “Start Multiplexing” wasn’t on it yet back then. and after the name, the following was automatically added: (1)

Is there somewhere I can see which version I had?

When you clicked on ‘start merge’, no ‘play’ button appeared that would slide over to ‘execute task’, as shown circled in the image below.

Ignore the dates of the files & folders; they were copied around quite a bit, and when that happens the timestamps reset.

You definitely did not use 0.9 or anything close to that version. Back then the application was only distributed as a RAR archive.

Not really.

This leads me to believe you mean the old GUI called “mkvmerge GUI”, also known as its abbreviation, “mmg”. That one was removed in v8.4.0.

Okay, I have 9.0.2 now. The 9.0.0 series is all fairly similar, but I don’t remember exactly which version I had before this.

It wasn’t a mmg. it was permanently installed.

Do you know which version I need in order to have at least version 17? One that is as close as possible to 9.0.2?

v17, obviously. Not sure what else you expect.

Oh, is that literally the MKVToolNix version? Sorry.

MKVToolNix-the-project & all the executables it contains always share the same version number for any given release. So yes, MKVToolNix v17.x.y contains exactly `mkvextract` v17.x.y.
